SVG to JPG Conversion
Files ending in .SVG and .JPG are image formats containing visual data, such as photos, illustrations, screenshots, and other media types.
SVG files (also known as JPGs) differ from JPG files in that SVGs are lossy, meaning they undergo compression that reduces quality. When creating a SVG, the level of compression can be chosen, typically resulting in higher quality images having larger file sizes, and more compressed images occupying less storage space.
On the other hand, JPG files are lossless and retain all image quality without compression. Additionally, JPGs support transparency, which SVGs do not. This feature is useful for overlaying images. However, JPGs do not support CMYK color spaces, making them less suitable for printing purposes.
Why Convert SVG to JPG?
The primary reason to convert SVG files to JPG is to gain transparency support. If you have an image with significant white space you wish to edit out, you won't be able to with a SVG, as every pixel must contain color information, typically filled with black or white.
Since JPGs are not compressed, uploading them to a service that compresses images will maintain their original quality. This is beneficial for preserving the integrity of specific images.
However, be cautious when converting SVG to JPG if you plan to print the image. As JPG files lack CMYK information, printing them can be challenging. It's advisable to retain the original SVG for potential future printing needs.
